Journalist and human rights defender Nuri Kino, the driving force behind A Demand For Action (ADFA), is among just six global finalists in the finals of the prestigious Global Good Awards 2025 in the category Individual Changemaker of the Year.

The Global Good Awards, established by Karen Sutton, is internationally recognized for honoring purpose-driven sustainability and ethical leadership. Accredited as “Outstanding” by the Awards Trust Mark since 2018, this year’s finalists were selected by an international panel of over 40 sustainability experts, who described the competition as “fierce.”

Kino joins an extraordinary group of changemakers:

  • Eileen Akbaraly – Founder of Madagascar’s first women-led social enterprise, revolutionizing fashion as a tool for empowerment

  • Melanie Blackmore – Sustainability leader and CEO of Carbonology®, advancing verified Net Zero initiatives

  • Kwabena Osei-Sarpong – Global climate tech leader and President of RIFE International

  • Engr. Bello M. Tongo – Multi-award-winning entrepreneur transforming education and enterprise globally

  • Bo-Wen Yen – Humanitarian leader at the Buddhist Tzu Chi Charity Foundation

In 2014, Kino launched ADFA in response to the genocide of indigenous peoples in Syria and Iraq. Among his many initiatives, he has led global crisis response efforts that have, for instance:

  • Rescued 19 people during the Turkey-Syria earthquake

  • Relocated 3,800 Ukrainian refugees

  • Delivered over 700 tons of humanitarian aid

  • Directly impacted more than 150,000 lives

Just weeks ago, in the Swedish Parliament, Kino was also awarded The Kavian Prize for Humanity and Solidarity, in recognition of his continued commitment to justice and aid for the most vulnerable. Over the years, he has received several other national and international awards for journalism, activism, and humanitarian leadership.

Named "Sweden’s Most Powerful in the Aid Debate" (2023), Kino has also helped influence U.S. Congressional resolutions and shape international foreign aid policies, while supporting sustainable clinics and agricultural programs in conflict zones.

“I am touched, humbled, and proud. All the finalists are incredible people making changes beyond imagination. That I am in the finals is totally thanks to ADFA’s team, volunteers, and followers. Thank you!” — Nuri Kino

“For our volunteer-driven organization, this recognition proves that passionate people can change lives — and that one person’s actions can ripple across the world,” Stella Sjögren, ADFA board member, said in a statement.

The Global Good Awards 2025 hybrid ceremony will be held on September 24th at BMA House in London, with a live global broadcast ensuring that all finalists are celebrated worldwide.
